This is a good little game to beat the heat on a hot summer day.  My horse Jazz loves water and he loves carrots.<\/h4>\n

So, put the two together and he had a blast.  In the summer it gets so hot here that sometimes the boys have to stay in the cool barn for more time than they like.  They are used to being in the barn only overnight and then all day in the green pastures.  This game helps me get the boys out on these hot days but still stay cool.  It\u2019s a win-win for both of us.<\/p>\n

I love to be creative and come up with fun games that we both enjoy.  You can do this too with your horse\u2026figure out what he likes and get creative and have some fun.<\/p>\n

Bobbing for carrots is a lot of fun and easy to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are the basics \u2013<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Get a baby pool that is only about a foot high so it won\u2019t trip your horse and will only hold less than a foot of water.  Think of your horse\u2019s safety.  So, get something that won\u2019t pop and scare him and something that has flexible sides so your horse can\u2019t hurt himself if he steps into it.\n

    • You\u2019ll notice the pool in this video has sides that will flex and bend and go down if and when Jazz steps into it or on it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Fill the pool up with a few inches of water so your horse won\u2019t have to put his head in too far to get the treat off the bottom of the pool.<\/li>\n
    • Bring out your horse and introduce him to the pool after you\u2019ve put water in it.<\/li>\n
    • Once your horse is not afraid of it, show him the carrots and toss a few in.  Make sure they are bite-size \u2013 not too small he can\u2019t see them, but not too big that he can\u2019t eat it in one try.\n

      • Make sure your horse sees you throw them in and hand in one so he knows what they are and where to get more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Then ask him to get them, or give him permission to go get them and watch him.<\/li>\n
      • If he is afraid of the water just put a carrot in your hand and put it right above the water to give it to him.\n
          \n
        • This way he knows it is safe and you are there to protect him<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Do this until he realizes he can put his nose in the water and get a treat.<\/li>\n
        • Once your horse gets it and feels the cool water and gets a treat at the same time, he will be all in.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          My Jazz even loves to play in the water.<\/p>\n
