So just in case you have the same issue, you can try this too.

Get a regular water sized water bottle and pour about 2-3 tsps of salt into the bottle. Then close it up and tape the top of the bottle. Shake it up and put it in your horses’ stall water bucket. This worked with a 20-gallon bucket of water and I haven’t even seen any ice form since I’ve used this method.

I tape the top because when the water gets low, my boys like to chew on the bottle and this makes it more difficult to get the top of the bottle off. The saltwater won’t hurt them, but this way the bottle lasts longer for me. ????

I put a larger bottle, I used an iced tea bottle and filled it with water and about 5-6 tsps of salt. Then taped the top and threw it into the large outdoor water trough and it no longer froze completely but just had a few floating ice chunks on the top.

When I threw two of these bottles in, I didn’t get any ice in the water. What a relief! My horses get all the water they need and I am no longer worried about it or running out there every few hours to thaw the ice or replenish the freshwater. Yay.

["post-30660","tva_lesson","type-tva_lesson","status-publish","hentry","tva_courses-bo2","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper
["GET
