This will help him start to trust you.

Remember to pay attention to your emotions and keep that feeling of wanting to build trust with your horse. Your intentions should be to want your horse to trust you as well as for you to trust your horse. It has to be both ways and it has to be a conscious effort on your part.

Also, pay attention to your body language. Don’t crouch down or bend over or make any physical movements that may look or act like a predator. You don’t want to sneak up on or surprise your horse.

Three easy steps:

While walking towards your horse, make sure to get his attention. You can do this by using your words and say, “Hi (your horse’s name)”.

When you get closer to him, stretch out your arm, as if you are going to shake someone’s hand, hand facing down and not in a fist. But stop before touching your horse, halfway between you and your horse’s nose. I want you to allow your horse the room to stretch his neck out a bit, 1-2 inches, to touch your hand. That is him greeting you. And Bingo, you just greeted each other. You don’t want to bend over and stretch to reach him and you don’t want him to have to stretch too far to have to reach you either. Equal amounts.

Then pull your hand back and casually walk away from your horse. Now you can go do whatever you wanted to do before you greeted your horse. You can turn around and go back and pet him, groom him, put a halter on and go work, play, whatever. But always take the time to greet your horse when you first get to your horse. It is just common courtesy in the horse’s world. Then you can do this again at any time with your horse, or whenever you would like to gain more trust from your horse.

["post-30692","tva_lesson","type-tva_lesson","status-publish","hentry","tva_courses-bo2","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper
["GET
