{"id":30717,"date":"2021-12-03T07:03:08","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T07:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/course\/marks-journey-5-3\/"},"modified":"2022-10-21T07:25:06","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T07:25:06","slug":"bo2-03-06","status":"publish","type":"tva_lesson","link":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/course\/bo2-03-06\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark\u2019s Journey \u2013 #5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>What is a Reed and How do you&nbsp;use it?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mark is progressing nicely with the horses. &nbsp;You can see in the videos that in the beginning mark was very nervous and uneasy around the horses. &nbsp;However, now he is becoming more confident and calmer. &nbsp;Even though he is still a bit shaky, because this is his first time ever being around horses, he is truly enjoying the adventure.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" data-init-width=\"209\" height=\"238\" data-init-height=\"300\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Marks-Journey\u20135.jpg\" data-width=\"166\" data-height=\"238\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The best part of this process for me as a trainer is that I can really break the learning process down to very small, baby steps, that are detailed and easy to follow for a person who is very \u201cgreen\u201d. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because of this breakdown, it makes it easier for the intermediate and advanced horse person to see areas they may have forgotten after years with horses too. &nbsp;The power is in the details.<\/p>\n<p>The details in your body language and your intentions are so important to your horse, as it is his entire language and how he knows to communicate with you.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: var(--g-regular-weight,normal);\">When you focus on the small details as well, your communication becomes easier and stronger. &nbsp;How beautiful. &nbsp;Everything works so well when in sync.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In this video, Mark is just learning how to hold something in his hand and use it as a way to communicate with his horse. &nbsp;We are using a reed because it is a natural object that won\u2019t scare the horse or give him a reason to be anxious. &nbsp;Horses see a reed as just a natural item found in nature and they understand that they are not harmful.<\/p>\n<p>No preconceived notions on the part of the human or the horse. &nbsp;Horses usually know what a whip means and it changes their frame of mind to what they \u201cautomatically\u201d know about what they need to do when they see a whip. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Humans usually know what a whip means and it can sometimes give them a false sense of confidence, power, and control.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" data-init-width=\"300\" height=\"166\" data-init-height=\"200\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Marks-Journey\u20135-2.jpg\" data-width=\"249\" data-height=\"166\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Therefore, putting them in a frame of mind to what they are \u201csuppose\u201d to do with a whip. &nbsp;Having a reed to start with puts both the horse and human at square one again and they can begin learning fresh, together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The video shows three motions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>How to hold the reed properly in an \u201cactive\u201d and an \u201cinactive\u201d position.<\/li>\n<li>How you can \u201caccidentally\u201d make requests with a reed and not even know it, but your horse is listening.<\/li>\n<li>How to \u201cask\u201d your horse to stop \u201cdoing\u201d something and change his mindset to just relax.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I hope you enjoying watching Mark\u2019s journey with horses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-30717","tva_lesson","type-tva_lesson","status-publish","hentry","tva_courses-bo2","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tva_lesson\/30717","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tva_lesson"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/tva_lesson"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/teddiezieglerhorsemanship.com\/academy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=30717"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
