However, for a true connection with your horse you need some individual time, special time, with one horse at a time. This will bond the two of you in a totally different way than bonding with the herd.

Just like developing a friendship with someone new. If you are in a group environment and you meet someone new, there is a different dynamic that happens when you are with the group. This is usually why, if you like this person, the next step is to go out on a date where the two of you can get to know each other better.

This is similar to why you want to bond with the herd as well as carve out some time to connect and get to know your horse better as an individual apart from the herd. An individual horse will act slightly differently when being alone with one person than when he is with a herd. His responsibilities are different.

In a herd, your horse has a job and responsibilities, herd dynamics, and he understands what they are for his position in the herd. When he is pulled out and spends time with just you, he has to figure out who you are, what you want, and where he fits into this new dynamic of the two of you.

In essence, you are developing your own herd and changing the herd dynamics through your body language and your connection with your horse.

There is allot to this, but for now, it is only about the two of you getting to know each other better. Just simply connecting.

Mark has the same issue. He has become comfortable being around me and the horses and being around the entire herd, but being with just one horse is totally different. You can see that at the beginning Mark is nervous, and a bit timid and not sure what he is suppose to do.

Even though I have told him to do nothing but relax, it is much easier said than done. Doing nothing can actually be hard for most people.

You may also notice in this video that Apollo can feel Mark’s uneasiness and he stays away at first. After about 15 minutes Apollo will go over a little closer to Mark. You’ll see that Apollo starts to lick and chew, which to me says that he is trying to release some of Mark’s nervousness and calm him down.

Later you will see that when Marks starts to calm down, Apollo turns to me and the camera to communicate with me.

You can tell that Apollo is also calmer and the two of them are starting to get in tune with each other and relax.

You can see this in Apollo’s head being lower, his neck muscles relaxing, his eyes being more closed and blinking, and his ears – one ear listening to me and one ear listening to Mark. So much body language going on.

Then after another 10 minutes, Apollo goes back over to Mark and really starts to check him out, touch him, sniff him, and this relaxes Mark even more. Once Mark is calm and happy with the whole experience the shift is felt by both of them and they really begin to connect and click. You can see the point where they become in sync and they both just want to stay in that feeling of connection forever. Mark said the feeling was amazing and he totally knew when Apollo had accepted him and Mark didn’t want to move because he was afraid of breaking the connection. Beautiful!

Sometimes this may take 30 minutes, sometimes a few hours, and sometimes a few days or weeks. It all depends on the horse, you, and both of your backgrounds. However, when it happens you can feel it and there is no denying that special moment in time.

Mark can’t wait to do this again and again. You don’t have to move on from this point too quickly.

So we are going to do more one-to-one time with Mark and Apollo and after a few more times with me around, I will let the two of them have their own space to really enjoy each other’s company and hang out in nature together.

I hope you are enjoying watching Mark’s journey with horses and are learning how important the little things are to you and your horse’s relationship. This is a new adventure for both Mark and the horses. Fun and enjoyment for everyone!

["post-30721","tva_lesson","type-tva_lesson","status-publish","hentry","tva_courses-bo2","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper
["GET
