Hi Ivy. Horses need to process just like we do and think about a new lesson and figure out what we wanted. Then it's their choice on how they proceed. But if the connection is good, then the cooperation should be good as well. :) Happy to hear Breezie is doing well.

I had a similar exerience teaching Breezie to do a turn on the forehand. First time was in a lesson. It was the last portion of the lesson, and she was really no longer wanting to focus and getting impatient to be done. We tried a few times, not too successfully, and called it a day. The next time I rode, however, a day or two later, I asked for a turn on the forehand and she did it beautifully! Marijke de Jong (Straightness Training Mastery) had a recent teaching video that mentioned how horses actually learn better when given a day off in between, rather than drilled through the same paces every day. Certainly was my experience. I wouldn't have guessed Breezie "caught" it from her first small, impatient attempts.
