And just like you, it has been a lifelong of learning that has brought me to listening better and paying closer attention to what my horses are telling me. Just in life, it is a give and take and a cooperative process. I love giving my horses a voice and listening. We do so much together.

As long as your relationship is good, the two of you can work together without force, and you both are happy...there is no reason for anyone to tell you you need to make changes, use force, or dominate each other. It sounds to me like the two of you are right on track and doing what you enjoy. Keep up the good work.

They will always talk to us and try to show us what they are feeling. So it is up to us to listen better and to really watch them closer for cues. Then once they realize we are listening, they start talking even more. :) It's so beautiful.

I truly believe that when you're around horses for awhile, you natualy pick up many things. One of which is that you can start listening closer to your gut instincts and follow your heart when helping your horse. The two of you start to have your own language and understanding and that's special. Trust yourself more. <3

Ahhhh Teddie.......

I had tears in my eyes reading this! I was thinking about the way the horses at my barn are approached, ‘listened’ to (NOT!) and ridden.....so very different! “You need to be the dominant horse.” “Don’t let him make the decisions. You’re the boss.” Etc., etc., etc!

I don’t ride my rescued Bud, but I do a lot with him on the ground, including a lot of connection. I listen to him as much as he listens to me....probably more actually, Lolol. He’s an opinionated Appy, besides being a rescue. I love listening to his opinions & find that when I do, he’s so very co-operative. I stopped riding a couple of years ago. I don’t feel the need to do so & I’m now 70, so my energy is starting to wane, . I only rode for about 10yrs.

I LOVE reading about your experiences, thoughts & feelings. Since my horse experience is limited, and I’m at a barn with horses who aren’t ‘seen’, periodically I begin to question my own intuition. You help keep me honest with myself and my higher Self.

Thank you.

Thankyou for this Teddie. You are very helpful and inspiring always.

I have had to move my two horses to a new yard recently due to illness of owner of previous yard, and it is quite challenging because they behave differently.....more tense and reactive as they are not yet completely relaxed in their new environment. Plus they don’t want to be apart from each other for a moment...whereas that was not a problem before.

So your lesson here is very helpful ...to listen to them and not push them too quickly

This is soo Nice to read. I do like this all the time and I get more confident and I believe my horse also feels more confident when he knows I am listening. He does not need to spook so much when he is allowed to look and to stop and listen.

Yesterday when he was free in the arena and I was walking in the middle some sound spooked him and he even ran to me and I felt it as he were seeking my support? I got warm all inside - love. In that moment I was the leader that was allowed to take care of my horse I felt.
