Here we are into the second week of March which means nearly a fifth of the year has gone by already. It’s scary how time flies, especially when you get older!
So I have a question for you, how are those New Year’s resolutions holding up?
However, if I lost my resolve all together and I was heading into the end of the year holiday season still at the same weight I was at the beginning of this year then I know I would be mad at myself for not following through with something that is important to me.
Actually I’d be more than just mad at myself, I’d feel frustrated and disappointed in myself.
And if that was the case, I’d look back at the year and wonder why I hadn’t done anything about it. Why I’d wasted the time and all the opportunity over the summer not to get to grips with it and get into shape.
Maybe you can relate?
And if you can, how does that make you feel when you think about it?
What other emotions come up for you?
Experiencing what these future emotions would feel like now is a useful tool as it gives us a preview of what life would be like if we stay as we are and don’t do anything about the problem.
This then acts as motivation for us to change because we don’t want to feel those emotions in the future. The painful emotions drive us to change and become better versions of ourselves.
So what does this have to do with horses?
Well, let me show this image:
If you have watched the current Masterclass training I am running called “How to achieve both Connection and Cooperation with Your Horse by Making 4 Simple Shifts” then you will probably recognize it.
It shows the results of a quiz I was running where I asked people about the connection they had with their horse as well as the cooperation they got from him or her.
I then asked them to rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 10 of how badly they wanted to solve the biggest issue they were experiencing with their horse.
66.7% or two-thirds of the people rated their desire to solve their issue as a 10 and 81.9% rated it a 6 or above.
Now here are some updated numbers now that more people have taken the quiz.
Although the % of people saying their desire to solve the issue as a 10 has dropped slightly, the % of those rating it as a 6 or above has actually gone up overall.
In other words, there is still a huge desire for people to solve whatever issue they are facing with their horse.
If that’s you, what are you going to do about it?
What problems or challenges are you facing?
And how keen are you to solve them?
Now though, go deeper than just choosing a number to rate your desire.
I want you to look out 6 months or 12 months or even 2 years from now and ask yourself how you would FEEL if you were still having the same issues then?
What sort of a knock-on effect would that have elsewhere in your life?
Would you face pressure either internally from within yourself or externally from others to finally do something about it.
How bad would it have to get before you HAD TO act? Before you finally said to yourself, “Right, that’s it, enough is enough!”
I’m not saying all this to scare you, I’m saying it to help draw your attention to the reality of the situation you find yourself in RIGHT NOW because NOW is the only time we can act.
Lookout 6, 12, 24 months and feel those emotions now.
Put yourself in that situation where you can’t stand it any longer and then really feel those feelings.
What are they? Guilt? Regret? Sadness? Shame? Frustration? Embarrassment?
Don’t you want to save yourself from experiencing those emotions?
Well, you can, right now.
Because remember the old saying, “today is the first day of the rest of your life”? Right now is the best time to act. Everything else is just a delay. Look at what’s important in your life with your horse and what you want to fix or focus on.
How badly do you want it?
So on a scale of 1-10, if you’d score yourself more than 6 and especially if you’d score yourself more than 8, then you should at least make the decision right now to do something about it.
If you resonate with me and my work and you are truly committed to making a change, then I’d be honored to help you if I think you’re a good fit.
It doesn’t have to be with me though but it does need to be with someone.
Seek help now or this month or this year or whenever you can but don’t let those negative emotions build up inside of you ‘cos that’s called stress and that’s not good for you or your horse.
